List of meteorites in Germany

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

According to the Meteoritical Bulletin, 53 officially recognized meteorite finds have been recorded in the area of Germany within its current borders . In 35 of them, the fall of the meteorite was observed before the discovery.

Notes and table

There are three of the meteorites listed here, of which there is no longer any material, including the Bad Rodach meteorite fall (1775) , which has only been very poorly verified. In addition, the Mauerkirchen meteorite fall (1768) is listed, which according to today's definition is no longer part of German territory due to a historical border shift. The authenticity of the Königsbrück meteorite as a German find has meanwhile been questioned many times. The names of all five events were put in brackets.

The official recognition of the Inningen meteorite fall (1998) was withdrawn after it was found that the finder had given a fragment of the already known Sikhote-Alin meteorite as a new meteorite. It has therefore been removed from this list.
