The hockey league as in the previous season played as single-track league with two preliminary round groups with 10 teams. The champions of the league became the REV Bremerhaven , which like the Mosquitos Essen and the Lausitzer Füchse (as successors) rose to the 2nd Bundesliga . Before the season, EHC Memmingen and ERSC Amberg withdrew due to bankruptcy and EC Atlantis Ulm / Neu-Ulm withdrew from the league due to license waiver and later insolvency.

mode

The mode was determined that after the preliminary round, the participants in places 1 to 5 of the groups in the championship round and the other teams in a relegation round.

After completion of the championship round , the championship playoffs followed for the teams placed 1 to 8 , while the season was over for the teams in 9 and 10, but at the same time the qualification for the Oberliga 2004/05 was achieved.

The championship playoffs were also the promotion playoffs for the 2nd Bundesliga 2004/05 , for which the teams from REV Bremerhaven and ESC Moskitos Essen qualified directly and to which the fourth-placed team of Lausitzer Füchse from Weißwasser later moved up as a replacement for EC Bad Nauheim .

As the last of the relegation round , the team of Eisbären Kempten , which was itself under preliminary insolvency administration , rose athletically, while the other teams qualified for the Oberliga 2004/05.

In the Oberliga Nord-Ost, in addition to the participants in the championship round of the previous year, Mighty Dogs Schweinfurt , Dresdner Eislöwen and ERC Haßfurt with the ERC Selb , Höchstadter EC , KEV Hannover , ESV Bayreuth, up to the insolvent ERSC Amberg, the teams that were in could claim the relegation round. There were also the teams Lausitzer Füchse and REV Bremerhaven , relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga , the newly promoted Berlin Capitals and SC Mittelrhein-Neuwied, who had been transferred from the Oberliga Süd-Ost .

Oberliga Süd-West

From the teams of the previous season, the championship round EV Füssen , EHC Klostersee , EC Peiting , TEV Miesbach and the teams that passed the relegation round took part in the Oberliga Süd-West : EV Ravensburg and Eisbären Kempten . Added to this were SC Mittelrhein-Neuwied , who had moved from the south-east group, and the newcomers from the respective regional leagues: ESC Moskitos Essen (NRW), Stuttgart Wizards (BW-Liga) and HC München 98 (Bavaria). The teams EHC Memmingen and EC Atlantis Ulm / Neu-Ulm went into bankruptcy before the season, the Geretsried Riverrats stopped playing and the Augsburg EV was relegated.

Eisbären Kempten GmbH would be relegated to the leagues of the Bavarian Ice Sports Association . Since a GmbH is not eligible to play within the regional association, only the cooperation partner EA Kempten could exercise this right to play.

Promotion from the regional associations

The regulation as to which team from the regional associations was allowed to move up to the 2004/05 Oberliga was made by them independently:

From the Bavarian Ice Sports Association only the champions of the Bavarian League Starbulls Rosenheim received approval, as did the winner of the qualifying round within the Baden-Württemberg League ESV Hügelsheim from the Baden-Württemberg Ice Sports Association .

Got from the regional leagues in the north

• the winner of the promotion round to the Oberliga Revierlöwen Oberhausen as the best participant of the State Ice Sports Association of North Rhine-Westphalia, the approval that the Ratinger Ice Aliens were denied by the association;
• the cooperation partner of the Berlin ice skating club Berliner SC Preussen GmbH and the Eisbären Juniors Berlin from the ice sports association Berlin and the cooperation partner of the EHC Leipziger Eislöwen the older Blue Lions Leipzig the release from the Saxon ice sports association
