The Schweinfurt ice skating and roller skating club is a sports club from Schweinfurt with the departments ice hockey , roller hockey , inline hockey , figure skating , speed skating and ice stock sports . The first ice hockey team is currently playing in the fourth-class Bayernliga .

history

Early years of the ice skating and roller skating club

As early as 1909, the locals founded an association that ran its own ice rink on the former Ludwigsbrücke in Schweinfurt. The ice-skating club at that time had up to 500 members, most of whom came from middle-class circles. After the First World War , the Turngemeinde 1948 eV merged with 1.FC Schweinfurt 05 , but separated again in 1923 and the ice rink became the property of the city.

It was not until 1932 that a new ice skating department was formed, which first played roller hockey in summer and ice hockey in winter on a syringe rink . Since the sport was mainly practiced outdoors, the club found a training and playing venue in the Stadtparksaal. On November 13, 1934, the “Schweinfurt Ice Skating and Roller Skating Club” was founded in the adjacent restaurant. The official approval was given in April 1935. Due to the wear and tear of the floor caused by roller skates, the people of Schweinfurt had to change venues regularly and in 1938 the construction of a roller skating rink began, which was handed over in the same year.

As ice sports could only be practiced on the sprinkling rink for a few days a year due to the weather, the ice hockey players played their first game in the Linde Stadium against the Nuremberg Hockey Society . The drafting of the players into military service and the later bombing raids on Schweinfurt in 1943 brought the sporting business to a temporary standstill. After the end of the war, the association was finally re-established on April 27, 1946. First the destroyed roller skating rink was repaired and reopened in the summer of 1946. A year later, the South German championship in roller hockey took place, in which the ERV immediately took second place. After the old roller skating rink in the Willy Sachs Stadium became more and more vulnerable to repairs and the city needed the space for the construction of further tennis courts, the planning for a new roller sports facility, which was to be equipped with a roller speed track, took place in 1958. This was finally inaugurated on June 10, 1960.

After the first efforts to build an artificial ice rink in Schweinfurt as early as 1951, it took until 1967 for the city to issue the building permit on what is now the “Icedome”. The ice rink opened on December 1, 1973.

History of the ice hockey department

The ERV ice hockey team first appeared in higher-class league games in the 1985/86 season in the Regionalliga Süd , but the team was withdrawn after the season and continued playing in the lower-class leagues. In 1990 he was promoted to the Regionalliga Süd again, in which the team also played when the German Ice Hockey League was introduced in 1994. After two seasons in the 2nd League South , the team was withdrawn again in 1996 and continued playing in the lower-class leagues. After the championship in 2000 succeeded in the 2000/01 season, the renewed promotion from the Bayern League to the Regionalliga Süd. In the summer of 2003, the professional team was outsourced to Mighty Dogs Eishockey GmbH and played in the major league under the name Mighty Dogs Schweinfurt in the 2003/04 season . For the 2004/05 season , the team's name was changed to Mad Dogs Schweinfurt - a name that last brought no luck to the professional EC Hedos Munich team  - the Mad Dogs Munich in the 1994/95 season.

In the summer of 2005 an application for insolvency had to be filed for the GmbH and the license requirements for the Oberliga 2005/06 could neither be met by the club nor by the insolvent GmbH. The ERV amateur team, which took part in the Bavarian regional league in 2004/05, continued to play for the 2005/06 season in the Bavarian regional league under the name Mighty Dogs and achieved third place in the regional league championship by winning the playoffs against the Team from EHC 80 Nuremberg . With the departure of the TuS Geretsried team from the Bavarian Ice Hockey League in spring 2006, the ERV senior team was the first to move up into the league. In the 2008/09 season the team was Bavarian champions. Those responsible waived the associated right to promotion to the top division . For the 2009/10 season, in addition to the first senior team, a second senior team was again reported for the - sixth class - Bavarian regional league, which immediately became Bavarian regional league champions in the first season, but renounced promotion. In the 2011/12 season, the first team secured a place in the final of the Bayernliga and the associated promotion in the Oberliga Süd by beating Sonthofen.

On October 11, 2013 Schweinfurt concluded a funding license agreement with the EC Bad Nauheim from the DEL2 .

After the 2013/14 season, the club withdrew from the Oberliga Süd for financial reasons.
