The Linde Stadium was an ice rink in the Middle Franconian city of Nuremberg , Bavaria , which was built for the 1936 Olympic Games in Garmisch-Partenkirchen .

history

The stadium, with a site area of 19,000 square meters, was opened on Epiphany in 1936 with a large ice revue and a game by the Nuremberg ice hockey team , after it was built by the Linde company at a cost of half a million Reichsmarks . Then the German ice hockey championships were held at the opening .

After the end of the Second World War , the stadium was only used by the US Army until it was first allowed to be used by students again in mid-January 1950 and, from 1951, also by clubs.

In 1974 the stadium was given a roof and could therefore be used regardless of the weather. After major renovations at the end of the 1980s, the capacity increased to 4,200 places. The stadium, which was open on both sides, had only 800 seats, which were located in the middle of the main and opposite stands. The opposite stand was a temporary tubular steel stand. Immediately next to the ice rink was the Linde open-air swimming pool , the area of which was later partially incorporated into the north-east indoor swimming pool .

On February 2, 2001, the Nürnberg Ice Tigers played their last game against Moskitos Essen (6: 4) in the Linde Stadium and moved to the Nürnberger Versicherung Arena . The stadium was demolished in the same year. Today the Mercado Nürnberg shopping center is located on the former stadium site in Äußere Bayreuther Straße .

The conditions for the guest teams in the Linde Stadium were inadequate. For example, they had to change in two separate small cabins. To get from one cabin to the other, you had to cross a passage.
