Marguerite Dockrell

Marguerite Dorothy Dockrell , later Mason (born March 10, 1912 in Dublin , Ireland ; died September 1983 in Weymorth , Dorset , United Kingdom ) was an Irish swimmer.

Career

Dockrell started at the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928 for the Irish team in 100-meter freestyle swimming . She was the only female athlete in Ireland at these Olympic Games , but there were four other starters in the art competitions that were also held .

In the first lap, Dockrell finished third behind the South African Kathleen Russell and the Hungarian Sarolta Stieber in a time of 1: 31.6 minutes . This performance was not enough to move into the semifinals.

Swimming ran in the family at Dockrell. Her uncle George Dockrell competed in the 100 meter freestyle at the 1908 Olympic Games in London , her brother Hayes Dockrell competed in Amsterdam as she did in 1928. He was part of the Irish water polo team there .
