The Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe (until 2014 Studentenwerk Karlsruhe ) operates the canteens at the Karlsruhe universities and the Pforzheim University. It is located in the student house built between 1926 and 1930, which also houses a cafeteria, the ballroom with up to 200 seats and two student dormitories .

In total, the Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe looks after around 40,000 students at eight universities in Karlsruhe and Pforzheim on behalf of the state of Baden-Württemberg . Organized as an institution under public law , it is responsible, among other things, for BAföG , builds, maintains and manages dormitories, operates canteens and cafeterias, advises on legal issues, issues loans and offers places in day-care centers. The Studierendenwerk does not work for profit, its services are aimed exclusively at students and are financed through solidarity contributions, grants from the state and its own income.

With 313 employees, it generated sales of over 18 million euros in the 2018 financial year. It serves over 2 million meals a year at six locations, operates ten cafeterias and has sales of over ten million euros in canteens and cafeterias. In 2018 around 6,000 BAföG applications were received, and over 17 million euros were paid out. The Housing Department operates over 2,000 dormitory places and arranges up to 3,500 rooms annually through the free private accommodation brokerage. The psychotherapeutic counseling center is the point of contact for over 1,400 clients each year, while the legal counseling center provides advice in over 500 cases. The employees in two day care centers look after 85 children.
