The Evangelical Theology Student Council (SETh) represents the interests of all students of Protestant theology in the Federal Republic of Germany throughout Germany. In contrast to other federal student councils , it includes not only 58 local student councils , but also 20 regional church conventions. In addition, the Association of Catholic Theology Students (AGT) and the student council of the University of Vienna are members.

history

The advocacy group sees itself as the legal successor of its two predecessor organizations, the Association of Protestant Theology Students / Conference of Theological Student Unions (VeTh / KthF) , formerly also the Fachverband Ev Theology in the VDS and the Evangelical Student Council (ESRA) . The VeTh / KthF (West Germany) and the ESRA (East Germany) merged a few years after reunification and finally founded the SETh in 1995.

organization

The advocacy work is based on

  • the student representatives (student councils or ASten ) of those universities where Protestant theology is offered as a regular subject
  • the associations (convents) of theology students within the Protestant regional churches and the SELK , as well as
  • the representatives of student teachers specializing in Protestant religious studies at universities and technical colleges.

The interest group represents the interests of its members at the federal level, for example vis-à-vis the Evangelical Theological Faculty Day , the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD), the Standing Conference (KMK) etc.

The highest decision-making body of the interest group is the plenary assembly, which meets three times a year at different university locations in Germany. The day-to-day business and external representation between the plenary meetings is handled by a two-person so-called governing body.

subjects

The SETh is primarily concerned with topics related to parish courses, such as the modularization of the diploma and 1st theological / church examination (church service examination), church recruitment policy ( assessment center ), but also issues related to teacher training courses such as the conversion to bachelor's degree , which is currently required by the KMK and Master’s degrees or the language requirements for teaching. In addition, positions are taken on general university policy issues such as tuition fees, etc.

theologiestudierende.de

Since October 2010, the interest group has been operating the internet portal “theologiestudierende.de”, a news platform for Protestant theology students in the Federal Republic of Germany. theologiestudierende.de is designed by students for students. Above all in the editorial part of the portal, young theologians should be given space and the opportunity to test themselves in journalistic work and to develop further in order to learn and expand competencies and skills for the job market.

Partnerships

The interest group maintains close contact with its Catholic sister organization, the “Working Group of Catholic Theology Students”, as well as theological student organizations in Austria (ÖKT) and Switzerland (interfac).
