Stupid story

Stupid Story is a comic by the German illustrator Anna Hollmann , which was published from 2008 to 2012. The three-volume work has won several awards and belongs to the genre Shōnen-ai .

The boy Yanik, who was very unpopular at his previous school, wants to change this after changing schools. But on his first day of school, the heartthrob Alan kisses him in public without warning, to show his admirers that they have no chance with him. When Yanik shows up at a party in girls' clothes because he was forced to do so, he meets Alan again. He thinks he's a girl and immediately falls in love with him. So both soon get confused about their feelings for each other, try to avoid each other again and again and soon get closer.

Anna Hollmann first published the story in 2004 in the Animexx web community . Several chapters were later published by the Schwarzer Turm publishing house until the first volume in paperback format was published by Tokyo in March 2008 . The second volume appeared in April 2009, a calendar in July of the same year. The third volume was published in June 2012. The publisher gives an age recommendation from 15 years.

Reception and awards

All three volumes received the Sondermann Prize in the category "Manga self-published (national)" in the respective year of publication, and the first volume received the AnimaniA Award for the best national manga.

According to the Frankfurter Rundschau , Anna Hollmann succeeded with Stupid Story in adapting the typically Japanese genre Shōnen-ai and also taking on the part of sexual education. As a narrator, Hollmann is already professionally able to immerse the readers in their “own emotional chaos” by identifying with the characters. Der Spiegel describes the comic as a “volume about super beautiful boys with backfish-like, brave eroticism”.
