Storm Tuva

Storm Tuva was the name of the storm that hit southern Norway and Götaland in Sweden on January 31, 2008 . In Koster the reaching hurricane-force winds a thickness of 35 meters per second and Väderö 34 meters per second. Also Skåne was affected by the storm. 3,000 households in Skåne were left without electricity .

The storm was caused by a low pressure area that formed over the Labrador Sea southwest of Greenland . This passed Iceland on January 30th . The low pressure area was named "Resi" by the Free University of Berlin . On Thursday, January 31st, the air pressure dropped to 950 hectopascals and the storm slowly moved across the North Sea in a straight line across the Faroe Islands - and the Shetland Islands . During Thursday, a large area around the center of the low pressure area was hit by the storm. At the same time there were severe storms. The cargo ferry "The Riverdance" was shipwrecked in the Irish Sea . The Faroe Islands were paralyzed by a huge snow storm . In Norway , Sörlandet and Östlandet were affected. The Norwegian Meteorological Institute named the extreme weather Tuva . Both a warm and a cold front passed over southern Sweden . In total, more than 27,000 households were affected by power outages during the storm.

On Friday February 1st, the low pressure area moved across the North Sea down to Stavanger in southern Norway. The two weather fronts, which brought heavy rainfall with them, later withdrew to the north via Sweden. On February 2, the low pressure area divided. Two gravure centers were created over northern Scandinavia, each of around 970 hectopascals. A little later the low pressure zone weakened significantly. On February 3, another low pressure area formed over the North Sea, which dominated the entire weather situation in Western Europe.

Storm Tuva was the third storm to hit Sweden in 2008.
