Company history

In 2014, the city of Stuttgart tendered the electricity and gas network concession, which expired at the end of 2013, and whose operator at the time was Netze BW, until December 31, 2033. This serves to separate sales and distribution. Stuttgart Netze was able to prevail against its two competitors, Energieversorgung Schönau-Schwäbisch Hall GmbH , and a bidding consortium made up of Veolia Wasser , BS Energy and LHI Leasing . The company has been the owner and operator of the medium and low voltage networks since January 1, 2016. After a lengthy legal dispute with the previous concessionaire Netze BW, the Federal Court of Justice ruled on April 7, 2020 that the high-voltage and high-pressure gas network in the state capital also went to Stuttgart Netze GmbH. In the first and second instance, Stuttgart Netze was awarded the line network and the majority of the associated technical network systems in the Stuttgart area.
