Veolia Wasser GmbH , based in Berlin, is the German subsidiary of the Veolia Water subgroup , through which the global Veolia Environnement group operates its activities in Germany.

Germany

In addition to the water business, the company is also active in the areas of electricity and gas supply and district heating through its stake in municipal utilities. The German activities mainly consist of the Braunschweig public utilities BS Energy and the Leipzig OEWA Wasser und Abwasser GmbH. A minority stake in Berliner Wasserbetriebe was sold again.

BS Energy

Veolia holds 74.9% of the shares in Braunschweiger Stadtwerke BS Energy (official name: Braunschweiger Versorgungs-AG & Co. KG). In December 2005 Veolia took over 100% of the shares in Stadtentwässerung Braunschweig GmbH (SE-BS) and transferred them to BS Energy in February 2006. The SE-BS operates the sewer network of the city of Braunschweig and is responsible for new investments in the sewer network. The SE-BS disposes of the wastewater from 280,000 residents through the Braunschweig wastewater association.

OEWA water and sewage

The operational water business outside of Berlin is handled by the wholly owned subsidiary OEWA Wasser und Abwasser GmbH, based in Leipzig. The OEWA operates as a manager and operator in the municipal water supply and wastewater disposal and offers services for industrial needs as well as for private households. The shares in MIDEWA Wasserversorgungsgesellschaft in Mitteldeutschland mbH , Stadtwerke Görlitz AG, Stadtwerke Weißwasser GmbH, OTWA Ostthüringer Wasser und Abwasser GmbH and MHWA Mittelhessische Wasser und Abwasser GmbH are also held through OEWA. Veolia Wasser also holds 85% of aqua consult Ingenieur, Hanover and 50% of Citélum Deutschland, which operates street lighting for municipalities.

Former participation in Berliner Wasserbetriebe

At the Berlin Water Works (BWB), the largest water companies in Germany, held Veolia Water to 2012 together with RWE a stake of 49.9%. After RWE withdrew in April 2012, Veolia's remaining stake (24.9%) was sold back to the State of Berlin.

Austria

On August 31, 2006 the joint venture AQUAssist Wasser Service GmbH was founded by Stadtwerke Klagenfurt Aktiengesellschaft , Veolia Wasser GmbH (45% stake) and aqua consult Ingenieur, 75% owned by Veolia (6% stake) ). In a first step, the company took over "water-related services such as repair, maintenance, relocation of the pipeline network" from the Carinthian community of Maria Rain . A year later, the AQUAssist company took part in a two-stage EU-wide tendering process for the operation of the water network of the Klagenfurt municipal utility. After this tendering process was canceled without awarding the contract and the network operation remained with the Klagenfurt municipal utility, AQUAssist Wasser Service GmbH was liquidated by the shareholders in 2010.

Others

VWS Deutschland GmbH (Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies), based in Celle, is a sister company of Veolia Wasser. This subsidiary of Veolia Water is independent of Veolia Wasser as a plant manufacturer and provider of technical solutions for water treatment in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
