Stutzenberger (caster)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Stutzenberger foundry family was a stucco and bell foundry in Feldkirch in Vorarlberg from 1633 to 1721 . In addition to gun and gunsmiths, the family also produced bell and pewter casters.

Bell caster

Stutzenberger, Jakob

Jakob Stutzenberger's (adult 1633; † September 12, 1672) first marriage to Maria Haass († 1656) resulted in his son Franziskus, who also learned the stucco and bell foundry trade. The pewter caster Hans Jakob comes from his second marriage to Anna Gawenin. Probably shortly before 1633 Jakob Stutzenberger received the master's justice in the brotherhood of locksmiths and blacksmiths (big hammer guild). He is elected senior candle master three times (1649, 1661, 1672) and once he holds the office of younger candle master (1644).

Jakob trained two apprentices:

Works:

  • 1657 bell, parish church Frastanz, together with Francis
  • 1663 bell, parish church in Bendern (FL)

Stutzenberger, Francis

Francis (May 18, 1635, † 1664) was married twice. The pewter founder Jacob (born March 22, 1661) comes from his first marriage to Maria Widmänin. In 1658 he was elected junior candle master of the big hammer guild. He probably achieved mastery justice shortly. He almost certainly didn't run his own foundry, but worked with his father.

Tin caster

Stutzenberger, Lorenz I.

The first caster of the Stutzenberger family is Lorenz (exp. 1584 - 1617). In the sources he is called the harbor caster, which in Feldkirch almost certainly meant the profession of pewter caster .

Stutzenberger, Matthias

In the sources, alternating port caster, then again called pewter caster, Matthias Stutzenberger (exp. 1617; † 1639) appears as the second caster of this family in Feldkirch. In 1617 he became a master of the big hammer guild. His first two wives die in childbed. From his third marriage there are two sons whose careers are not known. In 1626 he was elected junior candle master.

Matthias trains an apprentice:

  • 1626 Hans Schalch of Schaffhausen

Stutzenberger, Johannes

Johannes (exp. 1624 † 1649) was married twice. The gunsmith Caspar comes from his second marriage to Catharina Schindelin . None of his seven sons followed him in the trade. Around 1624 Johannes achieved mastery justice in the big hammer guild. In 1641 he was elected junior candle master and in 1646 elder candle master.

Johannes trains an apprentice:

  • 1633 Peter Rüetzler from Feldkirch

Stutzenberger, Hans Jakob

Hans Jakob (born May 2, 1663 † December 9, 1721 in Chur) is the son of Jakobus and Anna Gawenin. From his four marriages there were no children who followed him in the trade. He learned the tin foundry trade from Stefan Wiang in Feldkirch. Shortly before 1686 he achieved the master's degree in the big hammer guild. In 1690 he was elected junior candle master and in 1692 he was senior candle master. In 1706 and 1707 he held the office of brother master.

Hans Jakob Stutzenberger trained two apprentices:

  • 1687 Jacob Raiffel of Constance
  • 1711 Bernhard?
