Subacromial space

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Abrogated subacromial space in a patient with an ancient rotator cuff lesion. The humeral head is high and forms a neo-joint with the acromion.

The area below the acromion and the shoulder joint is referred to as the subacromial space . It is limited from below by the rotator cuff of the shoulder joint . In the subacromial space is the subacromial bursa .

Narrowing of the subacromial space can lead to impingement syndrome . If the rotator cuff is torn, the head of the humerus is stepped up to narrow or dissolve and a neo-joint can develop between the humerus and the acromion.
