SubSeven ( also: Sub7 ) is a remote maintenance program for Microsoft Windows , which can be used illegally and which provides the option of connecting the program file with another file so that the dangerous code is hidden behind seemingly harmless code (so-called Trojan horses ). SubSeven can be updated on the installed computer during runtime. The author of this program operates under the pseudonym mobman and now works for companies in the IT industry. Among other things, SubSeven can control webcams in order to observe the victim or simply shut down the victim's computer.
SubSeven has not been further developed since April 2005. The last published versions were not innovations created by mobman, but mostly only by the Sub7crew (group of sympathetic users) for current operating systems. In January 2014, sub7 was still being further developed by this group, which claims to maintain the software on a regular basis.
Less known than Back Orifice , at times much higher numbers of systems were infected with SubSeven. Scans of certain AOL IP areas showed infection rates of around 10%.
