Sue Ellen Wright

Sue Ellen Wright (* 1943 ) is an American translation scholar , terminologist and linguist . She teaches as a professor at Kent State University in Ohio.

Career

From 1971 Wright studied Germanic languages, literature and linguistics at Washington University in St. Louis and received her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in 1971. In addition to her studies at Washington University, Wright also studied at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main .

From 1981 to 1986 she worked as an in-house translator at LuK Lamellen und Kupplungsbau, after which she worked as a freelance translator and terminologist at Wright and Associates until 1994, where she was employed from 1985 to 2012.

Wright has worked at Kent State University in Ohio since 1990 and has been a professor of German studies and lecturer at Kent State University at the Institute for Applied Linguistics since 1991. Her teaching program includes technical translation from English into German as well as teaching computer-aided programs for translators. She chairs the terminology committee of the American Translators Association (ATA) and is an "ATA" certified translator for German-English. She is active as a trainer and specialist advisor for companies and institutions in the field of terminology management and localization.

Her teaching focus is on the translation of scientific, technical and medical texts from German into English, as well as interpreting training, terminology teaching and computer-based translation programs. Wright is an "ATA" certified translator for the German-English language pair and specializes in production technology, vehicle technology, electronics and computer applications. She mainly deals with research topics in the field of technical terminology.
