The Suffolk sheep is a breed of domestic sheep . The breed has been known from England since the late 18th century and originated as a cross between Southdown and Norfolk Horn sheep. The studbook was not closed until the end of the 19th century. This breed was also introduced in North America and further bred in greatly modified form (English Suffolk and American Suffolk). The breed of sheep is on the watch list of the British Rare Breeds Survival Trust .

The Suffolk sheep are considered to be very precocious and vigorous meat sheep . The body is elongated and broad with low legs and a straight back. The sheep are very muscular, which means that the chest, legs and back are very pronounced. The wool is generally white, the face, ears and legs are jet black and only smoothly hairy. Neither sheep nor goats have horns. Adult breeding rams can reach live weights of over 200 kilograms. Lamb rams (yearlings) can already weigh up to 100 kilograms and more.
