Sujata Nahar (* 1925 in Kolkata ; † May 4, 2007 ) was a student of Aurobindo , Mirra Alfassa and partner of Satprem .

Life

When she was a child, Sujata lived in the small town of Shantiniketan , north of Kolkata , which was founded by the poet Rabindranath Tagore . After the early death of her mother, the father moved to Pondicherry to the Aurobindo Ashram . The children followed him and Sujata arrived there in 1935 at the age of nine. She first received private tuition and then worked as a secretary for Pavitra, the French engineer and chemist who later became head of the newly founded university. She was also involved in the educational work of the ashram.
Satprem, who arrived at the Ashram in early 1954 teaching the older students, helped Pavitra with the numerous correspondence and translations of Aurobindo's books into French. This joint work brought Satprem and Sujata together. From 1965 on, Sujata regularly accompanied Satprem when he met his mother . After the mother's death , there was a falling out between Satprem and those in charge of the Ashram. After the publication of the Mère trilogy , in which Satprem had first evaluated the tape material, the management of the ashram referred to him as 'persona non grata' and had to leave the ashram. Sujata followed him.
They lived together for another 29 years, during which they devoted themselves exclusively to working in the consciousness of Integral Yoga, as it had been designed by Aurobindo and the mother.
Sujata died on May 4, 2007 at the age of 81.
