Sulfation (synthesis)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As the sulfation reaction is of hydroxy compounds with sulfating agents ( sulfuric acid , fuming sulfuric acid, chlorosulfonic acid , amidosulfonic acid , sulfur trioxide ), respectively. A sulfuric acid monoester with a C − O − S bond is formed, in contrast to the products of sulfonation , in which a C − S bond (so-called sulfonic acids ) is formed.

Sulphation is carried out, for example, in the production of fatty alcohol sulphates, which are used as surfactants .
