The Sumiswalder health insurance is the oldest health insurance in Switzerland . It was founded in 1823 in the legal form of an association .

Areas of activity

The core business includes compulsory health insurance (basic insurance ) under the Health Insurance Act (KVG) and supplementary insurance under the Insurance Contract Act (VVG) as well as daily allowance insurance (loss of wages insurance) under the KVG. In addition to its own products, Sumiswalder Krankenkasse arranges additional insurance in the areas of dental insurance, legal protection , capital insurance in the event of accident and / or illness, as well as travel insurance for people traveling in and out in cooperation with various partners. In addition, Sumiswalder Krankenkasse works for corporate customers, which includes collective agreements (compensation for the employer's statutory obligation to continue paying wages and additional social benefits) and the compulsory accident insurance under the Accident Insurance Act (UVG).

history

The fund was founded on October 5, 1823 under the name "Sickness and Aid Fund Sumiswald" by 34 craftsmen from the Sumiswald community in its current legal form. From the founding protocol it can be seen that the following considerations led to the founding:

Only a dissolute idler doesn't care about old age or illness. Because an illness that suddenly takes hold of him can use up all of his savings. Who would then want to be left to the unreliable favor and grace of his church? "

Since mainly craftsmen founded the cash register, it was obvious that the individual craftsmen made a miniature of their profession and gave it to the cash register. This created the collection of miniatures. These are now on display in a showcase in the Bären inn in Sumiswald and in the administration of the Sumiswald health insurance company.

The so-called "golden book" has been kept since it was founded. All important data are entered in it (President, Managing Director, Vice-President, membership, assets).
