Totalizer (philately)

Edge piece of a sheet of stamps from 1923, the number of thousands was omitted from the totalizer

The totalizer on the left edge of stamp sheets is a billing aid for those involved in the sale of stamps. Starting from the top, it shows the total of the stamps in a row of stamps for each line . If the use of the counter sheet begins at the bottom right row of stamps, the total value of the stamps remaining in the sheet can be quickly determined by adding the specified values using the row value counter and totalizer. Stamp sheets, where the total count starts at the lower left margin, are an exception. These sheets are to be used starting with the right stamp row from top to bottom.

The totalizer appears in the form of pure values or as a combination of value and currency.

Postage stamps with sheet edge pieces , especially those with totalizer information, are among the items particularly sought after by philatelists .
