In the Thomas Cup 1982 he was a regular in the Chinese men's national team and contributed with a victory in the semifinals against Denmark and in the final against Indonesia to win the world title, where he always competed in doubles with Yao Ximing . In 1984, after a change in the Thomas Cup format and the associated reduction in the number of games in a team competition from nine to five, he only started in a double in the final. He lost this with Tian Bingyi against Liem Swie King and Hariamanto Kartono with 14:18 and 12:15, which meant that China could not defend its title and lost 2: 3 to Indonesia.
