Sunburst (cherry)
Sunburst is a red variety of sweet cherries belonging to the cartilage cherries .
origin
The 'Sunburst' variety originated in Summerland , Canada . There it was bred in 1983 in the "Pacific Agri-Food Research Center" by crossing the variety 'Van' and the self-fertile variety 'Stella' through mutation breeding.

tree
The tree has a medium-strong growth with diagonally rising leading branches and a high-spherical tree crown .
fruit
The stone fruit is large to very large and broadly rounded. The skin is dark red with lighter discoloration in the form of lines and speckles. The soft, very juicy flesh is light and tastes harmoniously sweet with a mild acidity. The fruit is relatively burst-resistant and ripens in the 4th – 5th. Cherry week .
Other characteristics
The 'Sunburst' variety is self-fertile . As with all self-fertile varieties from Summerland, this was achieved by mutation breeding. The yields are high and regular and start early.
