Summerland is a community of about 11,280 people located on the western shore of Lake Okanagan in the Canadian province of British Columbia . Its main artery is Highway 97 , which connects Summerland with Penticton (approx. 20 km) in the south and Peachland (approx. 20 km) and further Kelowna (approx. 50 km) in the north.

history

Before the community was founded, there was a rest area on the "Okanagan Fur Brigade Trail" in the area of ​​Summerland, which connected various settlements in the Okanagan Valley. Settlement of the area began in the 19th century, nutrient-rich soils, lots of sun and water promised good conditions for agriculture. The community was founded in 1902 and officially registered in 1906.

The community is on the west bank of Lake Okanagan. It is dominated by the local mountain, the Giants Head. With a height of 910 m above sea level. NN. he is the remnant of an extinct volcano .
