Peachland is a small town of about 5000 people in the Okanagan Valley , which was registered in 1909. It is located on the western bank of the Okanagan Lake in the Regional District of Central Okanagan in British Columbia , Canada and was founded in 1899 by John Moore Robinson . The region had already been settled by members of the Okanagan Indians . Peachland is about a half hour drive south of Kelowna and about a twenty minute drive separates you from Summerland . Across from Peachland is Rattlesnake Island , said to be the home of the Ogopogo monster . The distance from the largest city in the province of British Columbia, Vancouver, is around 370 kilometers. The community area is 16 km²

Demographics

The census in 2011 showed a population of 5,200 inhabitants for the district municipality. The city's population has increased by 6.5% compared to the 2006 census, while the population in British Columbia grew by 7.0%.

politics

Peachland belongs to the Okanagan-Coquihalla constituency currently held by Conservative Canadian MP Dan Albas . In the Provincial Parliament of British Columbia , Peachland belongs to the Okanagan-Westside constituency and is represented there by MLA Bill Barisoff , who is a member of the British Columbia Liberal Party . The municipal administration of Peachland is headed by the mayor (currently Mayor Cindy Fortin) and six assessors. These are each elected for three years.

economy

The favorable climate makes it possible to grow wine . Hainle Vineyards were the first ice wine producers in North America in 1978 .

Greata Ranch Vineyards is known not just for its wine, but for its owner, former Canadian Senator Ross Fitzpatrick .
