Eduardas Mieželaitis
Eduardas Mieželaitis (born October 3, 1919 in Kareiviškis near Pakruojis , † June 6, 1997 in Vilnius ) was a Lithuanian poet .
Life
Mieželaitis studied law in Kaunas and Vilnius University and published political essays as a student.
From 1960 to 1989 he was a member of the central committee of the Lietuvos komunistų partija . 1955–1963 and 1975–1989 he was a deputy in the Supreme Soviet of Soviet Lithuania and 1962–1970 a deputy in the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union . During the so-called thaw period he was secretary and chairman of the Soviet Lithuanian Writers' Union (1959-1970). Mieželaitis is considered to be an innovator of modern Lithuanian poetry.
In 1962 he received the Order of Lenin of the Soviet Union for his poetic work .
His grave is in the Antakalnis cemetery .
