Sunshu Ao

Sunshu Ao ( Chinese  孫叔敖  /  孙叔敖 , Pinyin Sūnshū Áo ; * approx. 630 BC ; † approx. 593 BC ) was an advisor to the Chinese King Zhuang , and chancellor of Chu . As such, he was entrusted with many state affairs. Sunshu Ao is said to be the first hydraulic engineer in China because he strengthened agriculture in Chu by building irrigation systems. Among other things, he had the dam of the Anfengtang reservoir built in the Quebei irrigation project in Anhui , which still exists today.
