Supercargo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The word supercargo comes from English (supervision cargo, supracargo) and is best translated with a cargo expert or a representative of the charterer on board. A supercargo advises the captain and the cargo officer on a cargo ship on loading the ship .

He does not belong to the team, but is usually provided by the owner of the cargo or someone else involved in the cargo. The supercargo usually accompanies the ship to the various loading and unloading ports. In the meantime, especially with particularly sensitive freight such as fruit, he has the duty to externally monitor the state of the load and work out a solution to problems that arise at short notice. He also coordinates the smooth handling of the cargo.
