Supertone Records was an American record label from the 1920s.

history

Supertone Records was introduced around 1914 for the release of Sears Company records. A large part of the catalog was made up of re-published Masters from Olympic Records with jazz artists such as Gus Droberg, Cope Harvey and Charley Straight . After the record producer, the Fletcher Record Company , had to close in 1924, the label was briefly continued by the Bridgeport Die & Machine Company . Sears had the production stopped shortly afterwards and in the following time Strauss & Schram took over the name, because Sears had failed to register Supertone as a brand name.

In 1929 Sears took over the label again as a replacement for Silvertone Records . Now recordings from Gennett Records and Champion Records (including Cliff Carlisle (aka "Amos Greene"), Ernest Hare , Mae Glover , Bradley Kincaid and Ernest Stoneman aka "Uncle Ben Hawkins"), which belonged to the Starr Piano Company, were used. Production was carried out for Sears until 1931, after which Supertone was taken over by Brunswick Records , which continued the label from May 1931 to December of the same year, but then discontinued it for good. The few publications under Brunswick were merely re-releases by artists who were under contract with Brunswick.
