The Persian-language weekly Sur-e Esrafil ( Persian صور اسراقیل; DMG : Ṣūr-e Esrāfīl; German : "Trompete des Raphael") appeared between May 1907 and March 1909.
The first 32 issues were published by the founder of the magazine, Mirzā Dschahāngir Chān (1870-1908), an Iranian writer and journalist. With a content orientation that is regarded as liberal and revolutionary, Sur-e Esrafil contributed significantly to the support of the Constitutional Revolution . The editor published articles in which the dominant structure and the social situation in the country at that time were sharply criticized and the controversies between conservative and modern clergy were discussed.
The magazine has become known and famous mainly because of its literary-satirical component. Ali Akbar Dehchoda (1879–1956) was responsible for the satirical articles in the "Charand-o Parand" column ("Nonsense") , who stood out from the otherwise literary and educated style through a simple style of language. He wanted to reach the majority of the population and address the everyday problems of the "common man". In the course of the repression and on the orders of Mohammed Ali Shahs , the magazine was finally banned in June 1908, Mirzā Jahāngir Chān was imprisoned and executed. In January 1909 there was a revival of Sur-e Esrafil under Dehchoda, who brought out three further editions of the magazine from Switzerland.
