Surangel S. Whipps Jr. is a Palaui businessman and politician.

Life

Whipps was born in Baltimore , Maryland United States . His mother is from Maryland and his father is Surangel S. Whipps Sr., who was also a businessman and senator in Palau. Whipps was a senator from 2008 to 2016. He is a citizen of the state (administrative unit) of Ngatpang .

2016 presidential election

In 2016, he ran against his brother-in-law, President Thomas Remengesau Jr. , who stood for re-election. Remengesau received 5109 votes against 4854 for Whipps.
