The Surrey was a steamship which ran aground on December 20, 1884 on the beach in Vlieland , Netherlands .

history

In strong south-westerly winds and poor visibility, the ship coming from Reval ran aground near groyne 14 for an unexplained cause . The destination was London . The ship had loaded hemp and oats, as well as geese and smoked ox tongues. The 22-man crew could be rescued, 17 men were rescued with the pilot boat, five men saved themselves with the lifeboat.

Most of the wreck was sold, and studies by divers have shown that the part of the wreck that is still visible at low tide is part of the machine.
