The Surulere Stadium (also Lagos National Stadium ) is a multi-purpose stadium in the Nigerian city ​​of Lagos . It was built in 1972 to host the 1973 Pan-African Games . When it opened, the stadium had a capacity of 45,000, and when it was renovated in 1999, it was expanded to 55,000.

Various international football matches and tournaments were held in the stadium until 2001 . Since 2002 the stadium has been falling into disrepair, and in 2004 the Nigerian national soccer team played a game here for the last time . Religious gatherings are occasionally held today at the Surulere Stadium. At times the stadium was occupied by the Area Boys . In 2009 the first attempts were made by the state to restore and use the stadium.

The stadium has twice hosted the African Cup of Nations . In 1980 a total of 9 games, including the final, took place in the stadium, in 2000 9 games and again the final were played in the Surulere Stadium. In 1999, the stadium was one of the venues for the junior soccer world championship , with 6 preliminary round matches, one eighth, quarter and semi-final as well as the third place match and the final.
