Career

Hartmann studied biology from 1984 to 1990 at the University of Bremen , the University of Tübingen and the University of Oxford (UK). During her doctorate at the Institute for Parasitology at the University of Hohenheim , she also did research as a visiting scientist at the Chair of Molecular Parasitology at the Medical Faculty of the Free University of Brussels .

From 1995 to 2004 she carried out research at the Chair of Molecular Parasitology at the Humboldt University in Berlin , where she qualified as a professor in 2004 in the subject of parasitology . Following her habilitation, she became a group leader at the Chair of Molecular Parasitology. Since 2015 she has been Professor of Infection Immunology and Director of the Institute for Immunology at the Department of Veterinary Medicine at Freie Universität Berlin.

research

Hartmann deals with infections caused by parasitic worms ( nematodes ) in humans and animals. She works on the elucidation of the molecular mechanisms of host infections with parasitic worms and on the deciphering of the corresponding mechanisms of immune regulation .

She was able to show immunoregulatory processes between parasites and host immune cells and identify the parasite proteins responsible for them. She also investigates the potential of parasites and their regulatory products for the treatment of inflammatory processes.
