Life

Susanne Hofer works as an assistant for children with disabilities at Lebenshilfe in Graz and has also been a works councilor there since November 2018. In February 2017, Susanne Hofer was appointed managing federal youth chairwoman of the union of private employees, printing, journalism, paper and succeeded Christian Hofmann . In May 2018 she was elected as the first woman to be the executive chairwoman of the Austrian Youth Union. In this position she succeeds Sascha Ernszt . In November 2019, she was elected by the delegates to the ÖGB Federal Youth Congress as chairwoman of the Austrian Youth Union.

controversy

In January 2019, Hofer called for “resistance” against the Austrian government at the time as part of a Holocaust memorial event and quoted a youth representative who said: “Susanne, when will we finally light something”. When the moderator asked whether the lighting was meant metaphorically or real, she replied: "I don't know, I have no intention of lighting something, but when it happens, I am not surprised." This was made by Eli Rosen , Chairman of the Graz Jewish Community, criticized for making radical statements because of the abuse of the event. The protection of the constitution filed a complaint against Hofer on suspicion of being asked to commit criminal acts and terrorist offenses as well as dangerous threats. The complaint was dropped by the public prosecutor's office on the same day and no preliminary investigation was initiated against Hofer because the suspicion was not substantiated.
