Susanne Praetorius (* 1961 in Munich ) is a contemporary painter living in Kempten and co-founder of the art association “artig” located there. She is a great-granddaughter of the painter known at that time in Munich and now deceased Max Fenk that among the professors Gabriel and Emanuel von Seidl and Professor Hocheder had contributed much to the development of arts and crafts in the Bavarian capital.

The public award announced by the city of Kempten has been presented to Susanne Praetorius in 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2011.

Many of her pictures combine concrete motifs with the imaginary, which astonish the viewer because of their realistic representation based on the trompe l'œil technique. The titles of the pictures often contain humorous word games with hints to explain or even to discover what is hidden at first sight.
