Susanne Ussing

Susanne Ussing (born November 29, 1940 near Frederiksborg ; † March 8, 1998 in Gentofte ) was a Danish architect and artist .

Life

The daughter of the architect couple Elsebeth (née Lind) and Kjeld Jull Ussing, Susanne Ussing was born on November 29, 1940 near Frederiksborg.

From 1955 to 59 she studied at a craft school and in 1960 at an architecture school. In the same year she married the journalist Torben Schmidt and gave birth to her son Nicolai. In 1963 the family moved to Italy for a year. In 1964 she had her first major exhibition of ceramic works in her own boutique. In 1968 she moved in with her former student colleague Carsten Hoff . In 1969 the marriage with Torben Schmidt was divorced. The exhibitions Sanserum 1-6 ( Sinnraum 1-6 ) from 1968 to 1971 became more successful . From 1969 to 1973 she taught spatial perception together with Hoff at an architecture school. In 1977 her father died, a few months later her mother died too. In 1983 she married the architect Carsten Hoff.

In 1984 a large part of her paper works burned in her studio. In 1987 a large retrospective exhibition of her work from 1957–87 took place in the Nordjyllands Kunstmuseum . In 1988 she received the Nykredits Arkitekturpris together with Hoff and soon afterwards she was awarded the Eckersbergs Medal .
