from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Susumu Hirasawa ( Japanese 平 沢 進 , Hirasawa Susumu , born April 2, 1954 in Kantō , Tokyo , Japan ) is a Japanese electro-pop musician.

Life

In 1972 he enrolled at Tokyo Designer Gakuin College . From 1972 to 1978 he began his musical career with the band Mandrake, which played progressive rock . In 1979 he founded the technopop band P-Model together with two former members of Mandrake. The band has released numerous albums since 1980. After the band temporarily ceased their activities, beginning in December 1988, Susumu began to release solo works in 1989. In 1992 P-Model was reactivated and released numerous new albums with a slightly changed style before the band finally split up in 1999. Since 2004 the artist has been performing under the name Kaku P-Model , which is a solo sequel to P-Model.

Musical style

Hirasawa's peculiar style is a complex mixture of electronic, popular and classical music, often combined with embellishments that resemble Asian folk music. The songs are often based on clearly structured electropop , but supplemented with sampled choirs or orchestral elements. Another characteristic stylistic device is his clear, powerful tenor voice, with which he accompanies himself via overdubs . (Solo) live performances are presented almost exclusively with half playback due to the complex arrangements.
