P-model

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

P-Model was a Japanese band founded in 1979 by the lead singer Susumu Hirasawa ( 平 沢 進 , Hirasawa Susumu ). In the course of time the members changed frequently, while Susumu remained the leading head of the formation. The mostly progressive rock- style band was officially disbanded in 1999, twenty years after its formation. Even after that, the former members released numerous solo albums and collaborated on various projects.

history

The band P-Model was founded by the former Mandrake ( マ ン ド レ イ ク ) member Susumu Hirasawa. Members included Yasumi Tanaka, Sadatoshi Tainaka, and Akiyama Katsuhiko. They made their debut in 1979 in the Shimokitazawa Loft ( 下 北 沢 ロ フ ト ). In August of the same year they released their first album, In a Model Room . As part of their instruments, they initially used drum computers ( リ ズ ム ボ ッ ク ス , English Rhythmbox ) and synthesizers , which they used to create radical sounds. Like the groups Hikashu ( ヒ カ シ ュ ー ) and Plastic ( プ ラ ス チ ッ ク ス ), they drove the development of technopop and new wave in Japan.

Since the release of the third album Potpourri in 1981, its sometimes shrill sound has changed. He got more space and depth and increasingly developed his own style. During the live performances they also used a “Hevunaiza” ( ヘ ヴ ナ イ ザ ー ) running from a cassette , processed white noise , drums, midi guitar and used more and more finished, previously recorded samples. During this time they released several more albums before suddenly and temporarily put their project on hold in December 1988.

In 1991 Susumu stopped his solo activities and the band continued their success story with a new formation and a changed music style. In 1992 she released the album P-MODEL , which made increased use of sequencers and dance rhythms. Together with the album Big Body , which followed in 1993 , a style is said to have developed that is considered the music typical of Susumu Hirasawa. The style used elements of techno as well as sounds and melodies that are said to have been influenced by his stay in Thailand. Despite the great success and standing at the center of a new music movement that found many imitators, the band broke up towards the end of 1999.

Even after the official dissolution, the band's musical style was continued by various other groups. These include Pevo , Phnonpenh Model and of course the works by band founder Susumu Hirasawa and the name Kaku P-Model that were created as solo artists .
