Susceptibility gene

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Susceptibility genes are genes that have a hereditary increased likelihood of disease .

properties

In the case of gene variants in DNA repair genes, susceptibility to genetic damage can increase the likelihood of tumors developing . There are a number of gene products and enzymes that are constantly busy finding and repairing defects in DNA . If these genes are missing or if they are inactivated by mutation or deletions, there is an accumulation of DNA errors, which can then also affect the proto-oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes . They are used for quality control of the DNA and are therefore a risk factor for mutation and chromosome defects .
