Svartahrid is a Norwegian metal band from Skien . Many of her texts deal with Norse mythology and have an anti-Christian background.

Band history

Svartahrid was founded in the autumn of 1994 by Mactätus members Forn and Istar (Finn Tore Kjærsgaard). In 1996 Illvastar joined the band on bass and Bjørn André on keyboard. In June 1998 they released their first demo Herskende I Blod in their own production . Five months later they signed a contract with the Napalm Records label and published their debut album Forthcoming Storm , recorded between January and March 1999 at Akkerhaugen Lydstudio ; shortly after the recordings Bjørn André left the band. With their second album As the Sunrise Flickers from 2000 the style of the band changed a bit, so the keyboard played a major role in their first album, which is almost no longer present in the second album when the band member Bjørn André left in 1999. In addition, the guitar riffs and the vocals became much more aggressive here.

2001 bassist Ilvastar left the band and was replaced by Frank Iberg; In 2003 Ilvastar attracted attention beyond Norway by desecrating a corpse in a crematorium, taking the head of a corpse with him. According to Forn, the band had "no longer had any contact with him at that point". Ilvastar's act had "nothing to do with a satanic ritual or something like that", his accomplices were "all skaters or hip-hoppers, in any case people who had nothing to do with black metal or satanism".

In March 2007, Svartahrid released their third album Sadness and Wrath , this time under the record label Soulseller Records. It was actually produced in 2002/2003, but never released by their first label. During this period the band also changed their bass player twice, so Ilvastar left the band in 2001 and was replaced by Frank Iberg in the same year, who in turn left the band after two years. NidGrim has been playing bass since 2004. The band's currently last album is Ex Inferi and was released in 2010.
