from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sven Rahmann (* 1974 ) is a German bioinformatician who deals with a wide range of problems in genome sequencing. He works as a professor at the Medical Faculty of the University of Duisburg-Essen and is connected to the Faculty of Computer Science at the Technical University of Dortmund via a University Alliance Ruhr professorship.

life and work

Rahmann studied mathematics and computer science from 1994 to 2000 at the universities of Georg-August-Universität Göttingen , University of California, Santa Cruz and Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . In 2004 he received his doctorate with Martin Vingron at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics with a dissertation on oligonucleotide design in the field of computer science.

From 2004 to 2007 Rahmann worked as a research assistant at the University of Bielefeld before he was appointed to a professorship for bioinformatics at the Technical University of Dortmund . Rahmann has been W3 Professor for Bioinformatics at the University of Duisburg-Essen since 2011 .

Rahmann's research focuses on new algorithms and statistical methods for the integration of multi-omics data and the analysis of next generation sequencing data. In collaboration with other groups, he applies his methods to medical and biological issues. Rahmann has already received several awards for his research and teaching.
