The SGU in Uppsala

Sveriges geologiska undersökning , SGU, is the Swedish geological authority . It was founded in 1858 and is now headquartered in Uppsala . There are branches in Lund , Gothenburg and Malå . The SGU is also the superordinate authority for the Swedish Mining Authority ( Bergsstaten ).

The activities of the SGU are reflected in its departments for general geology, geophysics, geochemistry, hydrogeology, soil science and marine geology. It publishes map series, mostly on a scale of 1: 50,000 or 1: 200,000. The series include z. B. Maps on geophysics of Sweden, groundwater maps, marine geological maps.

The SGU has almost 300 employees and is assigned to the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
