Sylvicola fenestralis is a mosquito withinthe window mosquito family (Anisopodidae).
features
The mosquitoes have a body length of 4.5 to 5.5 millimeters. Their body is reddish-yellow to brownish in color. The head is blackish in color and dusted with gray. It has long pale yellow hairs on the back, reddish or pale yellowish under the face. The thorax is reddish-brown and bears gray-ripened spots as well as three almost black stripes on the mesonotum , of which the middle one is slightly shorter and ends narrowly at the back. The proboscis and palps are black-brown, the wings are spotted brown. Your wing mark ( pterostigma ) is yellow in the middle, brown at both ends. The wing tips have a brown spot. The holders are yellowish. The yellowish legs have short black hairs. The thighs ( femora ) of the middle and rear legs are darkened on the side away from the body, the thighs of the rear legs also have a dark ring at the level of the middle. The tergites on the abdomen are light brownish and have black bands on their front edge. The sternites are lined with light yellow at the rear.
Way of life and distribution
The animals are found in Europe. The adults can be observed all year round and fly to light sources, which is why they can often be observed at windows. The larvae develop in decaying plant material, such as potatoes, or on the discharge from tree wounds.
