Symaithos (mythology)

Symaithos ( ancient Greek Σύμαιθος , Latinized Symaethus ) is a river god in Greek mythology . He is the river god of the eponymous river in Sicily , probably today's Simeto .

He appears in the Metamorphoses of Ovid as the father of the nymph Symaithis that of Faunus mother of Akis is. In the Anthologia Palatina he is referred to as the father of the Nymphai Symaithides , i.e. the father of several nymphs.
