  • The code points 0x00–0x1F, 0x7F – 0x9F, 0xF0 and 0xFF (shown in green in the table) are not used.
  • The range 0x20–0x3F encodes punctuation marks as in ASCII , whereby punctuation marks that are not required in a mathematical context have been replaced by other mathematical characters.
  • The range 0x40-0x7E codes the full Greek alphabet without accents. The Greek letters are sorted according to the Latin alphabet , whereby letters for which there is no equivalent in Greek have been replaced by Greek characters from mathematics.
  • The character at the code point 0x60 (shown in red) is not encoded in Unicode and can therefore not be displayed. It is used to lengthen the stroke of the root sign .
  • The range 0xA0–0xE4 encodes some currency symbols and various special mathematical characters. The letters ®, © and ™ are coded twice, once without serifs, once with serifs (marked orange in the table)
  • The range 0xE6–0xEF and 0xF2–0xFE contain elements that can be used to construct brackets and integral signs that extend over several lines.

In addition to PostScript printers, there are implementations of the symbol font on Apple systems (as a Mac OS symbol character set) and in Windows (as a font called Symbol ).
