Symphonic sound work in the style of an overture

The Symphonic Tonwerk in the style of an overture is an overture by Georg Wilhelm Rauchenecker . Along with La graine de coquelicot and Souvenirs d'Aix, this is the only contribution Rauchenecker made to the overture.

Emergence

Rauchenecker was music director in Winterthur from 1873 to 1884. In 1880 he wrote the Symphonic Tonwerk in the style of an overture as a commissioned composition for the Musikkollegium von Winterthur for its 250th anniversary. The work was premiered under Rauchenecker's direction on April 10, 1880 in the Casino Winterthur . The overture has only seen two more performances, namely on February 20, 1881 in Winterthur in a benefit concert for Rauchenecker and on February 9, 1883 in Konstanz in a symphony concert by the Konstanz Regimental Band under Konstantin Handloser .

On August 13, 2010 the overture was performed again by the Biel Symphony Orchestra under Howard Griffiths in Biel and on August 14, 2010 in Solothurn.
