Howard Laurence Griffiths (born February 24, 1950 in Hastings , England ) is a British conductor .

Howard Griffiths studied at the Royal College of Music in London (England). He has lived in Switzerland since 1981 . Howard Griffiths had been General Music Director of the Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt (Oder) since the 2007/2008 season and had extended his contract to 2018 in 2013. Before that he was artistic director of the Zurich Chamber Orchestra (ZKO) for ten years . With this he had numerous guest appearances in Switzerland and abroad.

He has also performed with various orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the English Chamber Orchestra . In his career he has produced almost a hundred CD recordings with various record labels . He played with Gil Shaham , Vadim Repin , Maurice Steger , Fazil Say , Sandrine Piau , Rudolf Buchbinder and Arabella Steinbacher, among others .

Crossover projects arose with various orchestras, for example with Giora Feidman , Roby Lakatos , Burhan Öçal and Abdullah Ibrahim ; Together with the ZKO, he conducted the original music for Charles Chaplin's films live for projection on the big screen.
