The synagogue , inaugurated on April 4, 1907, was built for the very small Jewish community in the town. During the German occupation in World War II , the Jewish community was wiped out in the Holocaust .

The synagogue, the inventory of which was transferred to the Leeuwarden synagogue in 1945 , came into the possession of the Opsterland municipality in 1949. Due to dilapidation , they had the building torn down in 1954.
