Access to the synagogue in Issum

The synagogue in Issum , a community in the Kleve district in North Rhine-Westphalia , was built in the 1860s. The synagogue at Kapellener Straße 30 is a protected architectural monument . In 1869 a schoolhouse with a teacher's apartment and a mikvah were built next to the synagogue.

Since the late 1920s there have been no more services in the synagogue of Issum. The synagogue building had already passed into the possession of the Jewish community of Geldern around 1900, who sold it to a private individual in 1935, which is why the synagogue building survived the Nazi era undamaged.

Todays use

The community of Issum acquired the synagogue and the school building in 1987 and set up the synagogue room as a memorial for the former Jewish citizens of Issum and the surrounding area.
