The synagogue in Sabbioneta , a city in the northern Italian region of Lombardy , was established between 1821 and 1824. The synagogue is located on Via Bernardino Campi 1, in a former 15th century palace. It has not been used for church services for a long time .

description

The neoclassical synagogue was built according to plans by the architect Carlo Visioli . From the outside, the building cannot be recognized as a synagogue. The entrance on the corner of the house is set back and adorned with columns. A staircase leads from the anteroom to the synagogue room, which occupies the first floor and the attic.

The bima stands directly in front of the Torah shrine , as is the tradition for Sephardic synagogues, and is delimited by a wrought iron barrier. The Torah shrine is adorned by two pillars on which a triangular pediment with acroteria rests.

Some pieces of equipment come from older synagogues, some from the 16th century.
